There is a large amount of floor tile that must be removed from the building.  Here are three very different tools for removing the tile.

The demolition has moved to the south stairwell,
this area will be the entry hall to the high school classrooms.

This opening will allow the building’s heating and cooling system duct work to enter from the outside.  A large piece of equipment will set on the roof above this opening.  The equipment will contain a heat recovery wheel as part of the building's energy efficiency system.  As air exits the building it passes through the rotating wheel, this warms the wheel . As fresh air enters the building the air is warmed as heat is transferred from the wheel. This conserves energy by recovering heat,  reducing the amount of energy used to heat the building.

Mini track with a breaker attachment

The demolition work on the top floor is progressing well. Many of the walls have been removed by a machine called a mini track loader. The contractor is using two of these to make the demolition very efficient. For this job this machine has a jack hammer (breaker) attachment; this allows the operator to use the machine to maneuver the breaker in several directions.  Additionally the track loader can have a bucket attachment to move debris to the out loading point.  The contractor is also using a “demo saw” this allows the worker to cut through plaster and metal very quickly.

Asbestos containment

The abatement work continues on the main floor, the contractor has to create small rooms (containments) using plastic sheeting; the workers in these small rooms wear protective clothing and respirators while removing the asbestos material.  The asbestos is removed, bagged and properly taken from the building for disposal in a special land fill.  After this step is complete the contractor will begin removing the floor tile and disposing of that in a similar manner.
